The Community Market is an outreach program of the Food Bank of East Alabama.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Community Market. From assisting clients to sorting donations or stocking shelves, every role matters – and every role impacts lives.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Greeter
Welcome shoppers and help create a friendly, organized experience.
Shopping Assistant
Provide one-on-one assistance to shoppers as they select food items.
Stocker
Refill shelves and coolers with food from the warehouse.
Intake & Registration
Interview new shoppers and help with data entry.
Sorting & Packaging
Organize and prep food and personal care items for distribution.
Check-out/Bagging
Weigh and bag groceries post-shopping.
Appointment Volunteer
Schedule shopping times via phone.
Check-In Counter
Verify appointments and assist with shopper flow.
Warehouse Assistant
Unload deliveries and help stock food.
Loading Assistant
Help clients carry groceries to their vehicles.
Floater
Fill in across roles and support overall operations.
Pantry Clean-Up
Assist with end-of-day cleaning and food safety.
Special Events
Support fundraising and awareness events.
Shift Lead
Train and support volunteer teams during shifts.

Hear the stories of those we help
A young mother with a ten-month-old daughter was out of formula and was able to find what she needed in the Baby Manna Cupboard.
A young woman was living in her car after being put out of her home by an abusive husband.
She was careful to select non-perishable food items that didn’t require refrigeration or cooking facilities.
An older Auburn University student was divorced with a 7-year-old child. In addition to going to school, she also worked part-time.
When her employer cut her hours, she came to Community Market for help.
