The Community Market is a direct service program of the Food Bank of East Alabama, created to provide nutritious food in a welcoming, dignified environment for residents of Lee County experiencing food insecurity.

Since our founding in 2002,

we’ve distributed millions of pounds of fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable foods – helping people not just survive, but begin to rebuild.

Whether it’s a family recovering from job loss, a veteran navigating civilian life, or a senior struggling on a fixed income, our goal is to offer not just groceries, but a path to stability and hope.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Our work is only possible because of people like you. Whether you’re giving your time, your resources, or your voice, there’s a place for you at the Community Market.

Ready to take action?

  • Volunteer: Help us create a welcoming, supportive environment for every shopper.
  • Donate: Your gift provides groceries—and hope—to neighbors in need.
  • Advocate: Share our mission and help raise awareness about hunger in Lee County.

Together, we can feed more than just stomachs—we can nourish lives.

A local teacher and her family found themselves in need when the husband unexpectedly lost his job.

The teacher became a regular volunteer and said she wanted to “pay it forward.”

Tim was medically discharged from the military and found himself in desperate straits.

A former instructor brought him to the Community Market for assistance and he was especially grateful for the personal care items he was able to receive.

When a bullet came through the window of her apartment, an elderly woman was traumatized and made the decision to move to safer quarters.

Her savings were exhausted by the move and she was able to get food to tide her over.
